The cathedral steps and the Onyar houses
Ninety steps rising to a baroque facade, and a river lined with houses painted ochre, red and yellow.
Über The cathedral steps and the Onyar houses
Route anzeigenGirona has two images and they are a few minutes apart. The first is the cathedral: ninety broad steps climbing to a baroque facade, a staircase built to be walked up slowly and one of the most cinematic pieces of architecture in Catalonia — which is why film crews keep using it.
The second is the Onyar, the narrow river running through the middle of town with houses built right down to the water and painted in ochre, red and yellow. The footbridges across it give you the frame everyone photographs, with the cathedral tower rising behind the roofline.
Between the two is the Call, one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Europe: narrow, stepped, stone-walled and shaded through the middle of the day.
