Praza do Obradoiro

The square where the Camino de Santiago ends, and one of the great architectural spaces in Europe: granite underfoot, the baroque cathedral facade filling the eastern side, and pilgrims arriving all day with the look of people who have walked eight hundred kilometres.

That last part is why this location is unlike any other in the catalogue. It is not a backdrop, it is a place where something happens — and a session here that includes the arrivals has a subject rather than just a view.

Galicia is wet and often overcast, and the granite reads best in exactly that: soft grey light makes the stone silver, while strong sun makes it harsh and contrasty. This is a location that rewards the weather everyone else is complaining about.
