À propos Cap de Barbaria lighthouse
ItinéraireThe southern cape is the opposite of the beaches: no sand, no pine, just a flat plateau of pale limestone, low scrub and dry-stone walls, with a single road running dead straight across it to the lighthouse. The road itself is the shot as often as the building is — two people, a long empty strip of asphalt and nothing on either side.
At the end, the cliff drops away and the lighthouse stands on the edge facing the open sea, which is why this is where the island watches the sun go down. The Torre des Garroveret, an eighteenth-century watchtower, sits a few minutes' walk away and gives a second, older silhouette.
Come for the last hour and stay through dusk. There is no shelter of any kind up here, the wind is usually stronger than in the north of the island, and the return drive is unlit — bring a light.
