Ciutadella harbour and the Camí de Cavalls
A sandstone port town at the quiet end of the Balearics, with a coastal path circling the whole island.
À propos Ciutadella harbour and the Camí de Cavalls
ItinéraireMenorca is the Balearic island that stayed quiet, and Ciutadella is its old capital: a narrow sandstone harbour cut into the rock, with a town of arcaded streets and honey-coloured stone above it.
The stone is the thing. Menorcan sandstone is warmer and softer than Mallorca's limestone, and at the end of the day the whole harbour glows in a way that photographs almost orange.
Beyond the town the Camí de Cavalls, a bridle path built to patrol the coast, now runs 185 kilometres around the entire island. It reaches coves that no road does, which is why couples who want photographs with nobody else in them come here rather than to Mallorca.

Conseils
Much of the Camí de Cavalls is a real footpath — check which section you are using and wear proper shoes. Many island restaurants and hotels close from November to April.
