Ses Illetes and the Trucadors sandbar

Ses Illetes is the beach Formentera is known for, and the part worth walking to is the sandbar beyond it: Es Trucadors narrows until there is sea on your left and sea on your right, in two different blues, with yachts anchored offshore and the sea floor visible through the water.

For a photograph, the value is the emptiness. Point the camera north along the spit and there is nothing in the frame but sand, water and sky — no buildings, no road, no horizon clutter. Early morning is when it is clean; from late morning in July and August the boats come in and the sand fills.

The whole area is inside the Ses Salines natural park. Vehicle access to the beach is controlled and paid in season, parking is limited, and the dunes are crossed on marked boardwalks only — check the current arrangement for your date, and plan on walking the last stretch either way.
