About The Albaicín lanes
Get directionsGranada's old Moorish quarter, and the answer to what a session does between eleven and five. The lanes are narrow and the walls are high and white, so direct sun rarely reaches the floor — you are working with soft bounced light for most of the day, which is the opposite of what the viewpoints offer.
Look for the carmenes: walled houses with private gardens whose bougainvillea, jasmine and cypress spill over into the street. Placeta de San Miguel Bajo is a small square that stays shaded and has none of the mirador crowd.
It is a maze, and it is steep throughout. A photographer who knows it will route the session downhill.

Late morning through mid-afternoon — the hours that do not work anywhere else
Tips
Steep cobblestone everywhere, no shade breaks on the climb. Say up front if anyone in the group has trouble with stairs. Carry water in summer.
