The travel sits inside your photographer's time, so the far corners usually mean the two-hour or the half-day package.

The number of edited photos. The typical hour here delivers about 30 photos and the typical two hours about 70, so the second hour more than doubles the gallery. One-hour packages run from €405 to €805; compare photo counts before prices.

The occasion. Couples, families and proposals book by the hour. Weddings and elopements are where the island's catalogue runs short: the single half-day package costs €920 for about 150 photos, and full days are quoted individually.

Season and time of day. A package costs the same in any month and at any hour, sunrise included. The season changes the island around it: in July and August the beaches and villages are at their fullest and the midday light is harsh, so sessions sit at sunrise or in the last two hours of light.

Group size. Up to eight people the price does not move. From nine up, most packages and Quick Booking cost 50% more.

Tickets. Palma cathedral's interior is ticketed and closes to visitors during services; the Parc de la Mar in front of it is free and always open. The charterhouse in Valldemossa is ticketed too, but the lanes above it are not.

What is included in the price

Where the shoot happens

• Palma cathedral and the Parc de la Mar. First light for the reflection in the lake, which only mirrors on a windless morning, and the last hour of sun for the golden sandstone front.
• Deià. Stone houses in warm ochre, olive terraces, and the cemetery terrace with the view down the valley to the sea. Best in the last two hours of light; parking is very limited, and Cala Deià is a twenty-minute walk down.
• Valldemossa. Honey-coloured lanes above the Carthusian monastery, about half an hour from Palma. Go before ten or after five, when the coaches have gone; the old core is closed to cars.
• Cap de Formentor. Cliffs, a ridge road and the Mirador Es Colomer. The wind is strong most days, which is either the point or the reason to pick somewhere else; there is no shade and no shelter.
• Es Trenc. A long, undeveloped beach in the south with pale sand and clear water. Crowded at midday in summer; the late afternoon is emptier and the light softer.
