Sacromonte

Past the Albaicín the hill turns into Sacromonte, where the houses are cut into the rock. It is the historic Roma quarter and the birthplace of the Granada flamenco style, and it looks like nowhere else in Spain: white cave facades, prickly pear, agave, and a view back across at the Alhambra from an angle almost nobody uses.

Quieter and rougher than the Albaicín, with fewer people and more space to work. The light is open here rather than bounced — the hillside faces the valley, so it takes sun for most of the day and comes into its own late.

People live here. Treat it as a neighbourhood rather than a set and it gives you the most distinctive frames in Granada.
