The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — choose complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid colors and muted tones (navy, cream, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Spain's warm-toned architecture and lush green landscapes. Avoid busy patterns, large logos, or neon colors that can distract from you as a couple. Comfortable shoes are essential, especially in Madrid and Barcelona where cobblestone streets and hillside viewpoints are common. Bring a second outfit if you'd like variety — many couples change halfway through longer sessions. Golden hour — the hour after sunrise or before sunset — provides the most flattering, warm, romantic light and is universally recommended by professional photographers. In Spain, sunset times range from around 5:30pm in winter to 9:00pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions in Madrid and Barcelona are especially popular because the westward-facing viewpoints catch the light over the city rooftops beautifully. Sunrise shoots are quieter and give you famous landmarks nearly to yourselves, which is ideal for Toledo or heavily touristed areas. Professional photoshoots in Gran Canaria start from €345. The price depends on the duration and the number of edited photos included. The island is often called a continent in miniature, so it helps to choose one world — the southern dunes, the mountain interior or Las Palmas — per session.

The Maspalomas dunes in the south are a genuine desert running into the Atlantic, and the most striking backdrop on the island. Inland, an hour of driving brings pine forest, deep ravines and the rock monolith of Roque Nublo. In the north, Las Palmas has the colonial old town of Vegueta and the long city beach of Las Canteras.

In the dunes, the first or last hour of light and nothing else — anything in between flattens the ridges and there is no shade at all. Roque Nublo works in the hour before sunset, allowing thirty minutes to walk in; at 1,800 metres it is cold and exposed. The north often sits under trade-wind cloud while the south stays bright, so the forecast rarely applies to both halves of the island.
