La Concha is the frame the city is known for: a near-perfect crescent closed by an island, with white ironwork railings and lamps along the promenade. The bay faces north, so the light is forgiving at almost any hour and blue hour along the railings is a favourite. Morning suits Monte Igueldo, with the sun behind you lighting the bay. The real variable is Basque weather: rain and fine drizzle are frequent year-round, and it changes fast — agree a rain plan when you book rather than on the morning itself.

Check the tide table before fixing the hour. If you want the view from Monte Igueldo, note that the funicular runs to a timetable and closes in bad weather, and the viewpoint terrace charges its own small fee.
