Get directionsThe Vila Vella is the only fortified medieval town still standing on the Catalan coast: stone walls and round towers on a headland dropping straight into the sea, with the beach curving away below it.
What makes Tossa worth a session rather than a photograph is the Camí de Ronda, the coastal path that runs along the cliffs in both directions. Within twenty minutes on foot you are at small coves with pines coming down to the water and no one else in them — the enclosed, intimate frames that the main beach cannot give you.
The walls take warm light late in the day and the path faces east and west depending which way you walk, so you can choose your light by choosing your direction.

Tips
The Camí de Ronda is a proper footpath — uneven, with steps and no railings in places. Trainers, and not the section to attempt in a long dress without changing at the far end.
