The road in from Roses is winding and slow — allow well over what the distance suggests. Parking is outside the centre and the streets are pebble, which is hard on thin heels.
Tossa de Mar and the Camí de Ronda
A walled medieval town on a headland, with a coastal footpath running out to pine-backed coves either side.
Best time: Late afternoon on the walls; the coves whenever the light suits the direction you walk
The Camí de Ronda is a proper footpath — uneven, with steps and no railings in places. Trainers, and not the section to attempt in a long dress without changing at the far end.
Calella de Palafrugell — Les Voltes at first light
Whitewashed arcades standing straight on the water, with fishing boats on the slipway and clear coves either side.
Best time: Sunrise, before the terraces are set out
Park outside the village and walk in — the streets are narrow and the car parks fill by mid-morning in summer.

The tramuntana, a cold north wind, can blow hard around Cap de Creus in any season. July and August fill the parking and the beaches, so June and September are calmer.
Can we do a Costa Brava photoshoot from a boat?

Small boats and kayaks go out from Tossa de Mar, Calella de Palafrugell and Cadaqués, and a private hire gives you the freedom to stop where the light is best.
