Photo spot in Toledo
Mirador del Valle
The whole walled city seen from across the river — cathedral, alcázar and the Tagus wrapped round all of it.
About Mirador del Valle
Get directionsToledo sits on a granite hill inside a loop of the Tagus, and this viewpoint on the far bank is where you see that fact. The whole city stacks up in one frame — the cathedral spire, the square bulk of the Alcázar, the medieval walls and the river below.
The city faces roughly north from here, so it takes light across its face for most of the day rather than being backlit. Late afternoon warms the stone; after sunset the whole thing is floodlit and the twenty minutes of blue hour give you a completely different photograph.
It is a viewpoint on a road rather than a place you stumble into — four kilometres from the centre, and worth the taxi.
Best time to shoot
The last hour of light, or twenty minutes after sunset when the city lights up
Tips
Four kilometres from the old town along the Carretera de Circunvalación — taxi or car, not a walk. There is a lay-by to park in and it fills at sunset.
