Es Caló de Sant Agustí

Es Caló is a working fishing cove on the north coast, and one of the few places on Formentera with real texture: wooden rails and shelters — the escars — built onto the rock to pull small boats out of the water, weathered grey, with clear shallow sea between them.

It is small, which is the point. A session here uses the slipways as foreground and the pale rock as a frame, and the pictures come out quieter and more worked than the postcard beaches. The water is calm most mornings because the cove faces away from the prevailing swell.

From here the road climbs the escarpment to La Mola, so this is usually the middle stop of a route that starts on the sandbars and ends at a lighthouse. Boats and gear are private property — keep off the slipways themselves.
