Photographers in Formentera

Professional photoshoots in Formentera start from €279, with packages differing in length and in how many edited photos are included. Two things to plan around: most photographers cross from Ibiza by ferry, so fix the meeting point and allow for the crossing when you agree a time, and the island is very quiet outside May to October, when many places close.

Ses Illetes and the Trucadors sandbar at the northern tip, where the water is at its clearest and a strip of sand has sea on both sides. Cap de Barbaria for the opposite mood: a bare limestone plateau, a straight road and a lighthouse on the cliff edge. Then Es Caló, with its wooden fishing slipways in a tiny cove; the La Mola plateau, with dry-stone fields, an old windmill and a second lighthouse above the sea; and Sant Francesc, the small white capital, for the fortified church and a shaded square.

First light on the sandbars in the north, and the last hour at Cap de Barbaria, which faces the sunset. Midday in July and August is hot, hard-lit and busy on the beaches. Wind is the other variable: the island is flat and exposed, so on a blowy day the photographer will simply move to the sheltered side of the sandbar or head inland to La Mola.

There is no airport — ferries run from Ibiza town and take around half an hour, so allow for the timetable at both ends of the shoot. In summer the island limits how many vehicles may be on it, and cars and scooters brought over or hired need the corresponding permit, which the rental company normally arranges. The beaches and dunes are protected too, with marked paths, restricted parking and areas that are closed off, so check the rules in force for your dates before planning the route.
