The Roman aqueduct at the Plaza del Azoguejo gives scale nothing else matches, and the stairs beside it lift you to arch height. The Alcázar is best seen from the Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos below, where the towers rise off the rock. Add the Plaza Mayor and cathedral, the old Jewish Quarter, and the Vera Cruz church across the valley.

Grey granite needs warm, low light, so the first and last hour are worth planning around — the aqueduct genuinely turns gold before sunset. Segovia is a day-trip town from Madrid and busiest between eleven and four. It sits higher and cooler than the capital, which is a relief in July but means winters are properly cold and mornings can be frosty.

Not for the outside. The best-known view is from the meadow below, which is a free public space, and the aqueduct is open at all hours with no ticket at all. The Alcázar interior is paid, its tower is usually a separate ticket up a steep spiral stair, and photography rules inside vary — check the current conditions before building a session around them.
