Distances matter here: Teide is an hour and a half of mountain road from the southern resorts, so a session up there needs more time than one on the coast.

Teide National Park is the reason many couples come: red and ochre volcanic desert above 2,000 metres, with the Roques de García as the classic frame. The Anaga massif in the north is ancient laurel forest, wet and green. On the coast there is black sand at Playa Jardín, the cliffs of Los Gigantes, and the painted colonial streets of La Orotava and Garachico.

Sunrise or the last hour at Teide — midday at that altitude is unusably hard, and it stays cold and windy up there all year, so bring layers. The north is a different climate: the trade winds park a lid of cloud over Anaga and La Laguna most mornings, which is soft, beautiful light for the forest and often means Teide is standing above a sea of cloud.

The cable car is a separate paid ticket that closes in high wind, and the final path to the summit needs a free permit booked well in advance. Commercial shoots inside a national park can need clearance, so check the current rules with your photographer before booking.
