What moves the price in Barcelona

Length, and what fits in it. An hour covers one neighbourhood done properly: the Gothic Quarter, Barceloneta or Park Güell. Ninety minutes is common here — seven of the 28 packages — and buys the walk from the old town down to the sea. Two hours is for two different Barcelonas in one gallery, say the bunkers at dawn and the Gothic Quarter after.

The number of edited photos. One-hour packages run from €345 to €575, and most of that spread is the gallery: a tight, carefully edited set at the bottom, a bigger one at the top. Compare photo counts before prices.

The occasion. Couples, families and proposals book by the hour. Weddings and elopements are priced as half or full days: a half day from €690, typically €920 for about 150 photos; a full day from €1,840 to €2,300, with around 500 photos.

Season and sunrise. A package costs the same on a Tuesday in November as on a Saturday in June, and a sunrise start costs the same as an evening one. What changes is availability: weekends in May, June and September go first, and a June sunrise comes before half past six, which means an early start for the photographer too.

Group size. Up to eight people, the price does not move. From nine people up, most packages — and Quick Booking — cost 50% more.

Leaving the city, and tickets. Montserrat or Sitges put travel time inside the session, which usually means a half-day package rather than an hour. And some backdrops charge an entry fee that no package includes: Park Güell's Monumental Zone is the one people forget.

Where the shoot happens

• Bunkers del Carmel. Civil War gun platforms on Turó de la Rovira with the whole city below. Sunrise is the quiet hour; the hour before sunset is the famous one and the busiest. No shade, no railing, and a steep unpaved last stretch.
• The Gothic Quarter. Carrer del Bisbe with its carved stone bridge, Plaça Sant Felip Neri, the lanes around the cathedral. Empty before nine, and deep enough to stay in soft shade at midday.
• Park Güell. The mosaic terrace is inside the paid Monumental Zone with timed entry — a ticket each, photographer included. Book the first slot of the day.
• Barceloneta. At sunrise the light comes straight off the sea onto an empty beach. In the evening the sun sets behind the city, so the sand gets a soft side light instead of glare.
• Parc de la Ciutadella. The Cascada fountain and the boating lake, flat and easy with a pram; the first hour after the gates open is the calm one.
